In Memoriam: Howard Anthony Rose, MD

Our beloved colleague Dr. Howard Anthony Rose died, much too soon, on March 29th, 2024, after a long illness. No words could possibly capture Dr. Rose’s unique personality and effect on people. He approached life with boundless and dynamic warmth and compassion. Those who knew him as a mentor are devastated that the curtain has now fallen on his extraordinary life, but we will always remember the pleasure of his company, his guidance, his encouragement, and his support.

A Cum Laude graduate of Harvard College, Dr. Rose earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his surgical internship at Tufts New England Medical Center. Following Residency at HSS, he went to Brigham and Women’s for fellowship training in both sports medicine and adult reconstruction/replacement before returning to HSS to become the 8th member of the Sports Service.

Dr. Rose is beloved by his patients who he treated with dignity, empathy, and incredible skill. He was a wonderful doctor on every level. More than a surgeon, Dr. Rose was a trusted caregiver to his patients who had the utmost confidence in his commitment to find the best possible solution for their problem.

We extend our deepest condolences to Tony’s wife Ellen and their children John, James, and Anne.
